Ulrik the Slayer is the Wolf High Priest of the Space Wolves, the eldest of the Chapter's living Wolves save for the ancients interred within Dreadnoughts, older even than the Great Wolf Logan Grimnar. Across a life spanning centuries he has become the spiritual heart of the Chapter, a figure so venerable that his brothers name him Grandfather Lupus and Guardian of the Sons of Russ, and his word carries the weight of ages.
He won his renown in the fires of the First War for Armageddon, then a warrior of the Wolf Guard, when his company hurled itself against the traitor legions of Chaos. When his own Wolf Lord fell beneath the axes of three hulking berserkers of the Blood God, it was Ulrik who avenged him, cutting down the killers and turning the tide, and for this deed his brothers gave him the name of the Slayer.
In the aftermath of that victory the Wolf Guard voted, as is their custom, to raise Ulrik to the vacant rank of Wolf Lord, and to the astonishment of all he refused, one of the very few in the Chapter's history ever to turn aside such an honour. He had found instead his true calling in the priesthood, and took up the mantle of Wolf Priest so that he might devote himself to the selection and shaping of new warriors, judging which of Fenris' savage youths were worthy to become sons of Russ.
As a Wolf Priest, Ulrik is both battlefield chaplain and chooser of the slain, tending the spirits of his brothers, recovering the sacred gene-seed of the fallen, and roaring the sagas of the Chapter's heroes into the teeth of the enemy. Generations of Space Wolves have been chosen, trained and inspired by his hand, and in his grim wisdom and boundless experience the Chapter finds a living wellspring of the traditions that make the Sons of Russ what they are, and a guardian who will shape its warriors for as long as he endures.
