Where a standard Intercessor Squad is built around disciplined ranged firepower, its Assault variant answers a much older Astartes instinct: the desire to finish a fight at arm's length. Equipped with a pistol in place of the longer bolt rifle and every warrior carrying a heavy combat blade purpose-built for close-quarters butchery, an Assault Intercessor Squad is deployed specifically to weather the dash across open ground and crash into an enemy formation before it can fully brace.
Sergeants who command these squads are chosen as much for aggression as tactical sense, since the unit's entire purpose depends on committing fully to a charge rather than hedging with caution. Once combat is joined, an Assault Intercessor Squad becomes almost impossible to dislodge, each Battle-Brother trained to keep fighting through wounds that would fell a lesser being, grinding down enemy morale through sheer, sustained brutality until the position breaks.
