Sammael

Sammael is the Grand Master of the Ravenwing, captain of the Dark Angels' Second Company and the warrior charged above all others with running the Fallen to ground. Reckoned the three hundred and forty-eighth to hold the office, he bears the title Leader of the Hunt, and beneath his command the mobile company has enjoyed a reign both unusually long and unusually successful. Where the Deathwing waits in ambush, it is Sammael and his riders who first find the quarry and drive it toward the killing blow.

Boldness verging on recklessness is the mark of Sammael's leadership, and it is a trait his office demands, for the Ravenwing lives and dies by speed, daring and the shock of sudden assault. Time and again he has flung himself and his warriors into odds that a more cautious commander would refuse, and time and again his audacity has carried the day. His long tenure at the head of the hunt is testament that his boldness is matched by hard-won judgement.

Into battle Sammael rides one of the Imperium's few surviving jetbikes, the ancient and irreplaceable Corvex, streaking across the field faster than the eye can follow. When the war calls for heavier metal he takes instead to the land speeder Sableclaw, its guns turning the tide wherever he directs them. In either mount he is a swift and deadly presence, forever at the forefront of the chase.

In his grasp he wields the Raven Sword, a blade said to have been cut from the same fallen star as the Sword of Secrets and the other Heavenfall Blades, tying him to the most storied relics of his Chapter. With it he cuts down all who are foolish enough to stand in his path, clearing the way for the Ravenwing's headlong advance. For ten thousand years the Dark Angels have hunted their lost brothers through the dark, and in this present age it is Sammael who leads that hunt from the very front.
