Intercessors emerged from millennia of secret gene-seed research conducted under Roboute Guilliman's direction, refinements that produced Astartes taller, tougher, and more resilient than their predecessors without sacrificing any of the speed or tactical flexibility that has always defined the Chapters. When Guilliman finally revealed the Primaris Space Marines during the Indomitus Crusade, the Intercessor Squad became the default answer to an old, urgent question: how does an already-thin Imperium field enough Astartes to survive an age when war never ends.
Armed with a heavier, longer-ranged pattern of bolt rifle than their predecessors carried, Intercessors are built to hold ground as readily as they take it, anchoring a firing line against oncoming assault or advancing under covering fire to seize a critical objective. Their versatility has made them the single most common sight across the modern Adeptus Astartes, a squad type that a Sergeant can deploy with confidence in almost any theater, from close void-ship boarding actions to the open killing fields of a war-torn hive world.
