Long Fangs

The eldest warriors of the Space Wolves, the Long Fangs are grizzled veterans who master the Chapter's heavy weapons, holding the line with patience and firepower earned across a lifetime of war.

A Space Wolf who endures long enough eventually becomes a Long Fang, so named for the way the Chapter's warriors grow ever more lupine with age, their canine teeth lengthening as the decades of battle accumulate. These are the oldest of the pack-brothers short of the Dreadnought-interred ancients, warriors whose youthful hunger for the charge has matured into patience, cunning and an unshakeable steadiness under fire.

Where the young crave the glory of close combat, the Long Fangs have learned the harder wisdom of the heavy weapon, and it is they who shoulder the missile launchers, lascannons and other ponderous armaments that other packs disdain. In this they resemble the Devastators of Codex Chapters, providing the fire support that pins the foe and cracks open armour so that their younger brothers may close for the kill. Their long experience makes them deadly marksmen, and they are trusted to hold a position against overwhelming odds.

A Long Fang pack still bears the markings its members first painted on as Blood Claws, worn now through the black and white of veteran status, a proud thread linking the reckless boy to the grizzled elder. Respected throughout the Great Company for their hard-won skill, the Long Fangs anchor the Space Wolves' line, their disciplined volleys the steady counterpoint to the savage exuberance of the packs they have long since outgrown.
