Njal Stormcaller holds the exalted rank of Lord of Runes, the highest of the Space Wolves' Rune Priests, and is reckoned without peer among the psychic warriors of his Chapter. In an order that follows the old shamanic traditions of Fenris, drawing its power from ancient rites rather than the formal disciplines of other Librarians, Njal stands as the greatest of them all, a warrior-mystic whose mastery of the elements has earned him the name of the Tempest that Walks.
He began, as all Space Wolves do, as a mortal tribesman, a ferocious fighter who cut his way through the crews of enemy longboats and by that savage courage caught the eye of the Rune Priest Heimdall. Under his mentor's guidance Njal learned to bend the raw power of nature to his will, and his talent swelled until it rivalled and then surpassed that of the finest psykers of any Chapter, a gift as vast as the storms he would one day command.
His epithet was won in blood at the Battle of Goreswirl, where he avenged the death of his mentor by blasting apart a monstrous Bloodthirster of Khorne with a single titanic psychic strike, then conjured a raging ice-storm that drove the remaining daemons from the field. From that day his brothers named him Stormcaller, and the skies have been his to command ever since, ice-toothed blizzards and howling gales rising at his word to scatter and destroy all who stand in his path.
At his side is ever Nightwing, a psyber-raven forged for him by an Iron Priest whose life he once saved, a fierce familiar that has more than once repaid the debt by tearing out the eyes of those who would strike his master down. Between his own colossal power and the loyalty of his companion, Njal Stormcaller is a living tempest bound in the shape of a man, unleashed upon the foes of the Imperium wherever the Space Wolves march to war.
