The Devastator Squad is the mailed fist of a Space Marine battle company's firepower, its warriors trained to wield the heaviest man-portable weapons in the Chapter's arsenal. Where tactical squads manoeuvre and assault troops close the distance, the Devastators anchor the line, laying down a punishing curtain of fire that shreds infantry, cripples tanks and reduces strongpoints to rubble.
A single squad may carry heavy bolters to scythe down massed foes, missile launchers to answer any threat, or lascannons, multi-meltas and plasma cannons to gut the heaviest enemy armour. This flexibility lets a commander tailor his fire-support to the battle at hand, conjuring an anti-tank battery or an anti-infantry bulwark as the moment demands.
Discipline is the Devastator's watchword. Under the guidance of a veteran sergeant, often aided by the targeting array known as the signum, the squad selects its marks with cold precision, wasting neither shot nor moment. To advance into their firing arc is to enter a killing ground, for few forces in the galaxy can weather the concentrated fury a Devastator Squad brings to bear upon its chosen prey.
