The Fenrisian wolf is among the most vicious predators in the known galaxy, a semi-sentient hunter native to the death-world of Fenris and an enduring emblem of the Chapter that took its name. The breed ranges from the common wolves that harry the tundra to the massive black-maned beasts and, at the frozen summit of the world, the monstrous thunderwolves that dwarf them all. They hunt in packs behind a dominant alpha, iron-hard fangs and pitiless cunning making them the terror of the Fenrisian wilds.
The bond between wolf and warrior lies at the very root of the Chapter's identity, for legend holds that the primarch Leman Russ himself ran with the great packs of Fenris before he was found, raised among them and counting two mighty wolf-brothers among his closest companions. In his tradition the Space Wolves befriend and train these beasts for war, and the wolves repay that fellowship with an utter, unwavering loyalty, showing no mercy whatsoever to the enemies of their masters.
Loosed upon the battlefield, packs of Fenrisian wolves flow around the flanks of the enemy with terrifying speed, dragging down fleeing foes and savaging any line their masters mean to break. They are at once companions, hunting partners and weapons, a piece of wild Fenris carried into the wars of the Imperium, and to the Space Wolves the howl of the pack is the sound of home and the promise of the kill.
