Angels of Vengeance

The Angels of Vengeance are among the grimmest of the Unforgiven, a Second Founding successor of the Dark Angels who wage the secret hunt for the Fallen with a cold, unrelenting fury. Clad in armour of funereal black, they are austere even by the standards of their tormented lineage, speaking little and forgiving nothing. Where their parent Chapter cloaks its shame in ritual, the Angels of Vengeance carry theirs like a drawn blade, and they will cross any gulf and shatter any oath of secrecy to see a single Fallen dragged before the Inner Circle.

Origins

Born of the Second Founding, when the shattered Legions were divided into smaller Chapters, the Angels of Vengeance were raised from the gene-seed of the Lion and inducted at once into the darkest of secrets. They are counted among the Unforgiven, the brotherhood of Dark Angels successors who share the terrible knowledge of Caliban's fall and the treachery of Luther. From the first they made that hidden war the whole of their purpose, shaping every rite around its pursuit.

Heraldry & Temperament

Every company of the Chapter goes to battle in power armour of unbroken black, a deliberate echo of the panoply the First Legion wore at the dawn of the Great Crusade. Their Chapter badge, a pale skull hooded in blood-red and framed by angelic wings upon a field of night, speaks of death delivered in penance. The brothers themselves are famed for their silence and their severity, warriors who regard mercy as a weakness the galaxy can no longer afford.

The Hunt

Like their forebears, the Angels of Vengeance maintain an Inner Circle sworn to the pursuit of the Fallen, and they have refined that pursuit into a Chapter-wide doctrine of relentless retribution. They deploy a Terminator-armoured elite, the Dreadwing, to crush the most obstinate of foes, and a swift striking force, the Raptorwing, to run their quarry to ground across the void. When word reaches them of a Fallen at large, no distance is too great and no cost too high, for these grim Angels believe that only through vengeance can the ancient stain upon their honour ever begin to fade.
