Kayvaan Shrike is among the most celebrated warriors of the Raven Guard, a master of the arts of stealth and the sudden, murderous strike that are his Chapter's birthright. For long years he served as the Shadow Captain of the 3rd Company, leading daring raids deep behind enemy lines, and his name became a byword for the terror of an unseen foe, striking from darkness and gone before the alarm could sound.
In battle Shrike descends upon his enemies from the skies on screaming jump-pack thrusters, falling into their midst with the master-crafted lightning claws known as the Raven's Talons flashing in his hands. He is a peerless practitioner of the Trifold Path taught by the primarch Corvus Corax, the union of shadow, speed and precision, and few strongholds can keep his warriors out or survive the patient ambushes he sets. Whole worlds have been liberated almost before their oppressors knew a war had begun, the enemy's command decapitated and their armies left leaderless amid the confusion.
Shrike rose to the highest office of his Chapter in tragedy. During the Prefectia Campaign of 999.M41, the Raven Guard's Master of Shadows, Corvin Severax, was slain alongside much of the 3rd Company in a T'au ambush, and it fell to Shrike to take up the mantle of Chapter command in his stead. He led the Raven Guard through the storms of the age that followed with the same cunning that had marked his every raid.
Yet Shrike's devotion has always been to the war of shadows rather than the burdens of command. In the Era Indomitus he chose to relinquish the title of Master of Shadows to Aethon Shaan, a brother he judged better suited to embody Corax's teachings, and himself crossed the Rubicon Primaris to be reborn as a Primaris warrior of the Vanguard. So renewed, he returned to the darkness he has always called home, hunting the enemies of Mankind from the unseen places of the galaxy.
