Antaro Chronus is the finest tank commander the Ultramarines have ever known, a warrior whose bond with the machine-spirits of the Chapter's war-engines borders on the uncanny. There is no vehicle in the Ultramarines' armoury he cannot command with mastery, from the humble Rhino to the mightiest Land Raider, and his instinct for armoured warfare has made him a living weapon of unmatched value.
In recognition of his gifts, Chronus was granted the ancient honorific Spear of Macragge, the first warrior to bear that title since the days of the Great Crusade. The distinction carries a rare and singular authority: as the Spear, he leads the Chapter's armoured spearheads, chooses for himself the tank he will ride to war, and commands a force of some fifty battle-brothers while answering to no captain, but only to the Chapter Master himself.
His legend was written in fire upon the world of Damnos. Amid the war against the Necrons of the Sautekh Dynasty, Chronus kept his Predator, the Rage of Antonius, in the fight through a storm of gauss-fire that should have reduced it to slag, completing his mission to destroy the enemy's phase generator and driving an entire Necron war-cell into retreat before his tank's systems finally failed. In the Second Damnosian War his armoured formation crippled towering Monoliths and shattered scores of xenos constructs, though his own Land Raider, the Pride of Talassar, was consumed by the fury of a Necron Tesseract Vault.
Revered by the Chapter's Techmarines, who marvel that any commander can coax such endurance from wounded machines, Chronus embodies a truth often overlooked amid tales of blade and bolter: that in the wars of the 41st Millennium the battle tank remains a god of the battlefield, and Antaro Chronus its foremost high priest.
