The Emissary of Ynnead

Yvraine

Once an ordinary Aeldari who died and was returned to life by the nascent god of the dead, Yvraine became the prophet and living voice of Ynnead. She travels the scattered remnants of her people preaching a new hope, that the Aeldari might at last be freed from the endless dread of She Who Thirsts, and around her has grown a movement that unites craftworld, city, and darkness alike.

Yvraine's life before her transformation was unremarkable by the standards of a species measured in millennia, a wanderer who had walked many Paths and dwelt in more than one corner of the fractured Aeldari world. All of that changed at the moment of her death, when, upon the threshold of oblivion, she was seized and returned to life by the stirring power of Ynnead, the Aeldari god of the dead who slowly gathers strength from the souls of every departed member of the race. From that instant she became something new: the chosen emissary and prophet of a deity only just beginning to wake.

Borne back into the living world, Yvraine emerged as the herald of a revolutionary hope. For all their long existence since the Fall, the Aeldari have lived in terror of She Who Thirsts, knowing that death offers not peace but the horror of being devoured by that ravenous god. Ynnead promises another destiny, a path by which the dead might be gathered into a power capable of confronting and one day overcoming the Great Enemy, and Yvraine carries this promise to every scattered fragment of her people. Her preaching has drawn followers she names the Ynnari, the reborn, who set aside the ancient divisions that have long kept the Aeldari sundered.

What makes Yvraine's movement so remarkable, and so unsettling to traditionalists, is its power to unite kindreds who have not stood together in an age. Beneath the banner of Ynnead she has drawn warriors from the disciplined craftworlds, from the hidden cities of the dark kin who dwell in the webway's shadows, and from the exiled wanderers who answer to no home, forging alliances that would have seemed impossible before her coming. This blending of the sundered branches of her race is both her greatest achievement and a source of deep suspicion, for many among the craftworlds and their estranged cousins alike distrust so radical a departure from tradition.

In battle Yvraine is a whirlwind of lethal grace, wielding blade and psychic power with an artistry befitting one who has already crossed the threshold of death and returned. She is attended by manifestations of the very force she serves and channels the raw energy of departed souls against her foes. Whether she is truly the salvation of the Aeldari or the herald of some new and unforeseen doom, none can yet say, but wherever Yvraine walks, the long-static fate of her people begins once more to move.
