Maugan Ra

Maugan Ra was the mightiest Exarch of the Dark Reaper shrine upon Altansar, a craftworld that endured the psychic cataclysm of the Fall only to be caught in the gravity of the Eye of Terror. Within five centuries the whole world was dragged screaming into the warp, its people lost to the domain of the Chaos gods. Of all Altansar's souls, only Maugan Ra won free, escaping the closing jaws of that hell to wander the galaxy alone.

Bereft of home and kin, he poured his grief into the perfection of war. He crafted weapons of dark and occult design, and as his mastery grew he learned that even the most destructive armament could be wielded with a marksman's precision. From this understanding came the Maugetar, the Harvester, an ancient and potent shuriken cannon fitted with a built-in power blade, and from it in turn came the disciplines of the Dark Reaper Aspect that he founded and spread among the craftworlds.

As a warrior Maugan Ra is the embodiment of death unhurried and inevitable. He gives form to Khaine in his aspect as the Destroyer, and his skull-masked followers echo his grim countenance in their midnight armour. Patient, solitary and without mercy, he reaps souls from a distance with an accuracy that borders upon the supernatural, each shot a small and deliberate act of annihilation.

In the madness of the Thirteenth Black Crusade, Maugan Ra returned at last to the Eye of Terror in search of his lost home, and found that Altansar had somehow endured within the warp. He led its liberation, drawing the craftworld back into realspace after ten thousand years of torment. Yet its survival is a thing of unease to other Aeldari, who wonder darkly what a world might become after so long in the grip of Chaos, and what price its salvation may yet demand.
