Swooping Hawks

The Swooping Hawks are the winged skirmishers of the Aspect Warriors, soaring above the battlefield on shimmering anti-gravity wings. They dart and wheel through the air, raining lasfire and grenades upon the enemy before climbing beyond reach, embodying the vengeful hunting birds of Aeldari myth. Swift and elusive, they harry the foe and seize the moment for the killing blow.

The Swooping Hawks take their name and their spirit from the raptors of ancient Aeldari legend, birds said to carry the souls of the murdered and to circle above their killers as a mark of guilt and coming retribution. So too do these Aspect Warriors sweep across the sky as living vengeance, striking down the enemies of the Asuryani from above and vanishing into the light before they can be answered.

Each Hawk is borne aloft by a set of intricate wings of vibrating plates and anti-gravitic lifters, which blur into a haze of colour as they carry the warrior high into the air at a moment's notice. They bear the lasblaster, a rapid-firing energy weapon well suited to raking massed infantry, and a grenade pack that can be loaded with a wide array of munitions, from simple frag and krak to plasma and haywire, letting a single flight tailor its wrath to almost any prey below.

In the flow of battle the Swooping Hawks serve as harassers and opportunists, ranging ahead of the warhost to disrupt, delay and demoralise. They descend to scour an exposed unit or seize a vital position, then beat their wings and are gone before the counterstroke can fall. Their founder and Phoenix Lord is Baharroth, the Cry of the Wind, first of the Aeldari to master the arts of aerial war, and every Hawk aspires to a measure of his swiftness.
