When a craftworld's living defenders grow too few, it turns to its dead. Wraithguard are mighty humanoid war-constructs of wraithbone, each animated by the soul of a fallen Aeldari drawn forth from the spirit stone in which it rested, roused from the peace of the dead to take up arms one final time. It is a solemn and sorrowful thing, for the spirit within perceives the living world only faintly, as though through deep water, and must be guided by the psychic presence of a nearby Spiritseer to act with purpose.
These constructs are as durable as they are powerful. Their wraithbone bodies shrug off blows that would fell any living warrior, and they advance with the tireless, unhurried inevitability of the dead. Wraithguard typically carry fearsome close-ranged armaments such as the wraithcannon, a weapon that tears a rent in reality itself to swallow its target, or a concentrated cannon that flenses foes with wraithbone shards. Slow but nigh-unstoppable, they form an implacable core to the armies of depleted craftworlds like Iyanden, the honoured dead marching once more so that the dwindling living may survive another day.
