Of all the Ork clans, the Snakebites cling hardest to what they call da old ways, the simpler traditions of an age when an Ork needed nothing more than his own two hands, a decent choppa, and an unquenchable urge to do violence. They understand technology perfectly well; they simply distrust it, favouring war paint over force fields and a snorting warbeast over any rattling machine. To the rest of Orkdom they look like backward throwbacks, a judgement the Snakebites wear as a badge of pride rather than shame.
The clan takes its name from a brutal rite of passage. To earn his place, a young Snakebite must goad a venomous serpent into sinking its fangs into him, then suck out the poison and survive, proving both his toughness and his contempt for pain. Those who pass build up a hardy resistance to natural toxins, and many keep snakes and other venomous creatures as pets and mascots for the rest of their days.
Above all, the Snakebites are unmatched breeders of Orkoid beasts. Their squigs are the fiercest, their grots the most vicious, and only they hold the lore to raise and feed the mighty squiggoths that other clans can only envy. In battle they favour a savage, headlong charge, thundering forward on the backs of enormous war-boars and beasts while bellowing grots swarm alongside, a spectacle that looks less like modern warfare than something dragged snarling out of the greenskins' primordial past.
Orks
Order of battle
The Snakebites field the units of the Orks — a detachment from the roster:
Kindred formations
Other Orks formations
Bad MoonsThe wealthiest Ork clan, whose mastery of trade and gaudy yellow gear keeps every other clan's war machine running.
Blood AxesThe most cunning and least trusted Ork clan, mercenaries who trade with the Imperium, wear camouflage, and will actually retreat to fight another day.
DeathskullsThe Ork clan of incorrigible looters and scroungers, who daub themselves in lucky blue and pilfer anything not bolted down, friend or foe alike.
Evil SunzSpeed-obsessed Orks who believe painting a vehicle red makes it faster and would rather crash into the enemy than shoot them.
FreebooterzPiratical Orks who have cut ties with any single clan to roam the stars for plunder, decked in gaudy finery beneath the dreaded Jolly Ork flag.
GoffsThe biggest, meanest, most traditionalist Ork clan, who settle every argument about tactics with a straightforward brawl.
