The Freebooterz are less a clan than a way of life, a catch-all for the Orks who have severed their ties to any single tribe and struck out to plunder the galaxy on their own terms. Some were exiled for their arrogance, their eccentricity, or their sheer accumulated wealth; others are the lone survivors of warbands wiped out around them; and a fair few simply grew bored of following one Warboss and left in search of richer, freer fighting. Whatever the cause, a Freebooter answers to no klan and swears no lasting loyalty, selling his guns to whoever offers the best plunder and turning them just as readily on a former paymaster.
Cut loose from clan colours and clan glyphs, Freebooterz revel in flamboyance. They deck themselves in gaudy finery, looted jewellery, rings, and outsized hats, and stitch together personal insignia in place of any tribal mark. Most fly some version of the skull-and-crossbones that the Imperium has grimly nicknamed the Jolly Ork, a symbol that has come to mean piracy and plunder wherever greenskins sail.
A Freebooter warband is a chaotic amalgam of every kind of Ork, from renegade Meks and cast-out Bad Doks to gun-obsessed Flash Gitz and ordinary Boyz hungry for a share of the spoils, all held together by a Kaptin ruthless and rich enough to keep them in line. Their ramshackle ships prowl the void bristling with looted weaponry, descending on soft targets, stripping them bare, and vanishing back into the dark before any proper reprisal can be mustered.
Orks
Order of battle
The Freebooterz field the units of the Orks — a detachment from the roster:
Kindred formations
Other Orks formations
Bad MoonsThe wealthiest Ork clan, whose mastery of trade and gaudy yellow gear keeps every other clan's war machine running.
Blood AxesThe most cunning and least trusted Ork clan, mercenaries who trade with the Imperium, wear camouflage, and will actually retreat to fight another day.
DeathskullsThe Ork clan of incorrigible looters and scroungers, who daub themselves in lucky blue and pilfer anything not bolted down, friend or foe alike.
Evil SunzSpeed-obsessed Orks who believe painting a vehicle red makes it faster and would rather crash into the enemy than shoot them.
GoffsThe biggest, meanest, most traditionalist Ork clan, who settle every argument about tactics with a straightforward brawl.
SnakebitesThe most traditionalist Ork clan, feral throwbacks who scorn fancy tech for war paint, poison-proof hide, and the fierce beasts they breed for war.
