The Battlewagon is the largest common vehicle in an Ork warband, an enormous slab of armour plate that serves at once as a heavy tank, a mobile gun platform, and a transport able to haul twenty Boyz into the thick of the fighting. It might roll on wheels, on tracks, or on some lopsided combination of the two, depending entirely on what its Mek had to hand, and it invariably groans beneath a heavy load of weaponry, from batteries of big shootas to a single enormous killkannon.
There is no such thing as a standard Battlewagon. Orks kustomise each one relentlessly and give the results boastful names, Gobsmasha, Lungbursta, Bonecruncha, Gorespeeda, to mark out its particular role and character. Many are fitted with a deff rolla, a huge spiked cylinder mounted across the front that brings the vehicle's colossal weight crashing down on anything in its path, grinding troops, barricades, and lighter vehicles into paste beneath the treads.
In battle a Battlewagon spearheads the assault, grinding forward as a rolling fortress that shrugs off incoming fire and disgorges its howling cargo directly into the enemy's midst. For the Orks packed inside, there are few finer ways to arrive at a fight than aboard a bellowing mountain of guns and armour, and for the enemy on the receiving end, few sights more disheartening than a Battlewagon building up speed with its deff rolla lowered.
