The Venomthrope is a walking, or rather floating, chemical weapon, bred by the Hive Mind to blanket the battlefield in death. Beneath its heavy, hunched carapace lies a mass of swollen bladders that continually vent a sickly yellow haze of toxic spores, a miasma so virulent that any non-Tyranid caught within it chokes, blisters and dies.
Yet the creature's true value to the swarm is as much defensive as offensive. The dense clouds it exudes hang thick across the advance, veiling the larger bioforms behind a shifting curtain of poison and making them fiendishly hard to target with ranged weapons. A monstrous brood shrouded by Venomthropes can cross open ground that would otherwise be a killing field, its silhouette lost in the churning fog until it is far too close to stop.
The Venomthrope itself is no warrior, drifting on gas-filled sacs and lashing out with toxin-slick tentacles only when cornered. It is a support organism through and through, a living apothecary of poisons whose mere presence transforms a swarm from a mass of targets into a creeping, lethal cloud that seasoned defenders learn to dread.
