Tyranid Warriors are the connective tissue of the swarm, the bioform upon which the Hive Mind's command network most often rests. Larger and vastly more intelligent than the gaunts they shepherd, they serve as synapse creatures, living relays through which the collective will flows outward to steady and direct the mindless broods around them. Where a Warrior stands, the lesser organisms fight with purpose; where none remain, they risk dissolving into feral, uncoordinated frenzy.
They are also astonishingly versatile. Imperial bio-magi have catalogued well over two hundred distinct variants, each grown to a different battlefield task. A brood might be armed with devourers and deathspitters to lay down withering ranged fire, or with scything talons and boneswords to butcher the enemy at close quarters, or with some blend of both that the Hive Mind judges the moment demands. This adaptability lets a single Warrior strain fill roles that would require a dozen separate units in any human army.
For all that they are instruments of a greater intelligence, Tyranid Warriors are formidable killers unto themselves, their chitin-plated frames shrugging off small-arms fire as they wade forward. Cunning defenders learn to target them first, for to slay the Warriors of a swarm is to cut the strands of the web and leave the ravening broods leaderless and vulnerable.
