Hive Fleet Gorgon

An endlessly adaptive tendril whose bio-forms rewrite their own flesh mid-campaign, answering any weapon turned against them within a single generation.

Contents

Gorgon is the hive fleet that made adaptation into a doctrine. Every wound it suffers, every weapon that halts its advance, is studied and answered with unnerving speed, and the next wave of broods emerges already reshaped to render the previous battle's lessons obsolete. So relentless is this cycle of mutation and rebirth that the fleet is often forced to lean upon its simplest organisms, the gaunts and lesser beasts that can be regrown fastest, for only they can keep pace with the Hive Mind's constant revisions.

The fleet's most infamous campaigns were waged against the Tau, whose energy weapons at first scythed through Tyranid ranks with contemptuous ease. Within a handful of engagements Gorgon had thickened and restructured the carapaces of its hormagaunts and termagants until pulse fire barely troubled them, and in later battles it grew broods sheathed in chameleonic hide that all but vanished from every sensor but the sharpest of battlesuit arrays. When it turned upon the Kroot, it reshaped its warriors yet again, trading armour for raw muscle and speed to tear through their tough flesh, accepting greater fragility as the price of the kill.

Most feared of all are Gorgon's toxins, which evolve to match their prey almost as swiftly as the fleet itself. Against a given foe the venoms coating its claws and stingers grow so virulent that the faintest graze or moment of skin contact can prove fatal. To fight Gorgon is to face an enemy that learns from every death it is dealt, and grows only harder to kill with each corpse it leaves behind.
