The Triarch Praetorians are the keepers of the old law, a caste created before the War in Heaven to serve as judges and enforcers of the ancient codes by which the necrontyr empire was bound. Their charge has never altered across the long millions of years: to ensure that every dynasty, from the mightiest phaeron to the least overlord, honours the sacred dictates of the Triarch and the traditions of a civilisation now all but forgotten by those who fought within it.
Unlike the warriors of a tomb legion, the Praetorians are vassals of no single ruler. They answer to the memory of the Triarch alone, and they retain the ancient right to censure and chastise any noble who transgresses the codes, be that noble a common lord or a king in his own right. This independence lends them a grim authority that even the proudest overlords are wary to challenge, for to defy a Praetorian is to defy the foundations of necron society itself.
In war they descend upon their foes from on high, borne aloft on humming repulsor fields and wielding rods of covenant that are at once badges of office and lethal weapons, their crackling energies loosed in short, devastating bursts or driven home in brutal melee. Some bear particle casters and voidblades in place of the rod, but all fight with the same unbending purpose. Every battle they wage is, to them, a step toward the ultimate goal: the restoration of the ancient necrontyr dynasties to their rightful and undisputed dominion.
