Monolith

A floating pyramid of living metal bearing a captive wormhole in its heart, delivering warriors across the void and vaporising foes with its particle whip.

Few sights inspire such dread in the enemies of the necrons as the slow, inexorable approach of a Monolith. This colossal pyramid of living metal glides above the battlefield in serene defiance of gravity, at once a troop transport, an armoured destroyer and a monument to the undying might of the dynasties. Weapons fire batters harmlessly against its necrodermis hull, which flows and reseals over every wound, smoothing away craters and sealing rents as though the war engine felt nothing at all.

Its armament alone would make the Monolith a fearsome foe. Four gauss flux arcs sweep the ground around it clear of infantry, while the dreaded particle whip mounted at its apex looses discharges of such violence that battle tanks are reduced to smouldering wrecks and living warriors to a fine molecular vapour. Yet its true power lies within, at the shimmering portal known as the eternity gate: a captive wormhole bound into the very heart of the structure, a tear in space-time harnessed and enslaved to the necrons' will.

Through this gate the Monolith becomes a doorway between worlds. Phalanxes of warriors can be drawn from elsewhere on the battlefield, from orbiting tomb-ships, or from distant crypts across the galaxy and deposited in an instant beside the war engine, an endless tide of reinforcements arriving from nowhere. The gate's energies also quicken the reanimation of those who pass through it, so that a battered squad emerges from the portal whole once more, ready to resume the slow slaughter.
