No dynasty commands greater prestige than the Szarekhan, for it is the house of Szarekh, last of the Silent Kings, who ruled the whole necrontyr race from the throne of the ancient Triarch. Before the long sleep it stood without rival, the most influential and technologically accomplished of all necron houses, and its heraldry still carries the weight of that supreme authority. To fight beneath the Szarekhan banner is to fight as the inheritors of the dynasty that once spoke for an entire species, and its warriors bear themselves with the cold assurance of those who consider themselves the rightful heart of the necron empire.

That pre-eminence is written into their war-gear as surely as their bearing. Szarekhan crypteks are peerless in the manipulation of blackstone, the arcane material anathema to the powers of the warp, and their mastery runs so deep that even rank-and-file warriors march to battle warded by fragments of it, shielded against the sorceries and daemons that plague the younger races. The house has been transformed by the return of its king. For sixty million years Szarekh wandered the intergalactic void in self-imposed exile, and in his absence the Szarekhan endured as guardians of his legacy.
