Tomb Blades

Anti-grav void fighters turned battlefield jetbikes, corkscrewing far ahead of the tomb legions to strike supply lines and lightly held ground.

The Tomb Blade is a marriage of void fighter and jetbike, an anti-grav craft born in the closing days of the War in Heaven when the necrons ruled the stars unchallenged. Because a necron's metal body has no need to breathe and fears neither the vacuum nor the killing cold of space, its designers dispensed entirely with the sealed cockpits and pressurised canopies that burden the craft of lesser races, leaving a lean, skeletal machine equally at home in the void and in the skies of a world.

These craft serve as the swift vanguard of a tomb legion, ranging far ahead of the slow-marching phalanxes to seek out and savage the enemy's soft underbelly. Tomb Blades fall upon lightly defended positions, supply columns and any target of opportunity, striking with sudden violence before the foe can react and vanishing before a response can be mustered. Their pilots harry and disrupt, sowing confusion in the enemy rear while the main host advances with its usual pitiless patience.

What makes them so difficult to bring down is their motion. The Tomb Blade's reactionless dimensional repulsor engines free it almost entirely from gravity and momentum, letting it corkscrew and jink across the battlefield in wild, unpredictable arcs, constantly shifting vector and altitude in a manner that confounds any gunner's aim. Armed with twin-linked tesla carbines or gauss blasters, a squadron of Tomb Blades can shred infantry and light armour in a single screaming pass before wheeling away into the sky.
