Long before the biotransference stripped them of flesh, the nobles of the Nihilakh were merchants and magnates whose fortunes were the envy of the necrontyr elite. Their vaults groaned with plundered wealth, and their crownworlds became treasure-houses filled with the spoils of a thousand conquered peoples. When their living bodies were exchanged for undying metal, the acquisitive hunger that defined them did not fade; if anything, the long ages of dormancy distilled it into something colder and more absolute. To a Nihilakh lord, ownership is not merely a matter of pride but a law of the cosmos, and everything within their borders, down to the last mote of dust, is a possession to be catalogued and guarded.
This obsession shapes the dynasty's whole character. Nihilakh legions are among the most tenacious defenders in the necron race, content to anchor themselves to a contested ruin or buried vault and grind down wave after wave of attackers rather than yield a single step. They do not chase glory across the stars as the more aggressive dynasties do; instead they wall themselves within their holdings, insular and suspicious, hoarding relics whose worth no younger race could hope to comprehend.
Yet the same possessiveness can drive a Nihilakh overlord to acts of astonishing persistence. Let a raider abscond with even one artefact the dynasty deems rightfully theirs, and its ruler will marshal entire tomb legions and pursue the thief across the galaxy for age upon age, untroubled by the centuries the hunt may consume. Their heraldry of turquoise and gold proclaims both the mineral riches of their core worlds and the golden certainty that all they survey belongs, and will always belong, to them alone.
