In the age before the necrontyr traded their flesh for eternity, the great noble houses maintained personal guards whose sole purpose was the protection of their lords. That tradition survives in the Lychguard, warriors rebuilt with reinforced necrodermis plating and armed for close, decisive combat rather than the ranged attrition favored by common troops. To stand as Lychguard is to be trusted above nearly all others in a dynasty's service.
They typically fight in one of two configurations: bearing a dispersion shield and a warscythe capable of cleaving through armor and bone alike, or wielding a hyperphase sword paired with a particle caster for more flexible engagements. Either way, Lychguard exist to form an unbreakable wall between their overlord or noble charge and any threat bold enough to approach, and they hold their ground with a discipline that borders on the ceremonial.
When Lychguard advance in formation, shields interlocked and weapons raised, they present an image the necrontyr themselves would have recognized from their oldest wars: household soldiers marching to defend their sovereign, now rendered eternal in gleaming, unfeeling metal.
