The Flesh-Sculptor

Illuminor Szeras

A necron savant obsessed with perfecting the biotransference process, endlessly experimenting to refine the very technology that made his race immortal.

Among the necrons, few figures are regarded with as much wary unease as Illuminor Szeras, a scientist-noble whose obsession is nothing less than perfecting the ancient process of biotransference, the very technology that stripped the necrontyr of their failing flesh and bound them into eternal metal bodies. Szeras has never accepted that the process, however miraculous, was without flaws, and he has spent unnumbered millennia probing every variable he can access in search of a purer, more perfect method of transferring consciousness into necrodermis.

This obsession has led Szeras into a career of grim experimentation, capturing specimens from across the galaxy's living species in order to study the interplay between organic minds and mechanical vessels. He is a being of unsettling patience, willing to test countless failed configurations without complaint, and his own body bears the marks of self-augmentation and constant tinkering, an ever-shifting testament to his refusal to settle on a finished form.

Unlike commanders who lead through martial charisma or dynastic authority, Szeras's value to any dynasty lies in his singular expertise, and rival overlords often tolerate his unsettling methods and independent agenda because his innovations in necrodermis technology and reanimation science offer real advantages on the battlefield and beyond. Whether Szeras genuinely believes he serves the necron race's future, or has simply lost himself entirely in the pursuit of a perfection that may not exist, is a question even his fellow nobles hesitate to ask him directly.
