Plague Drones are the aerial cavalry of the Plague God, elite Plaguebearers who ride to war upon the backs of monstrous Rot Flies. The title is one of grim humility among Nurgle's Tallybands, borne by those disease-bearers elevated above their fellows. Their droning steeds are vast, bloated insects with two pairs of ragged wings and bodies crusted in boils, and there is a bitter secret to their making: each Rot Fly was once a Beast of Nurgle, a creature of guileless affection soured over long ages into spite. Rejected and unloved until its joy curdled into hatred, it emerged transformed, and now vents its resentment upon all who yet live.
In battle the Drones come howling out of the sky to smash into the enemy line like swung wrecking balls, their sheer stinking mass bowling warriors from their feet. The riders hack down with rusted plagueswords and hurl daemonic death's heads that burst amid the foe in billowing clouds of spores, while the flies themselves gore with venomous stingers and drink deep through filth-encrusted proboscises. Swift and tireless, they range ahead of Nurgle's shambling legions to run down scouts, harry fleeing prey and pull screaming flyers from the air.
