When Chaos drowned the Mortal Realms in the Age of Chaos, the God-King Sigmar withdrew behind the gates of Azyr and set about forging a weapon that could win the realms back. That weapon was not a blade but an army: the Stormcast Eternals, mortal champions plucked from the moment of their deaths and remade upon the Anvil of Apotheosis into something greater than human. Clad in sigmarite plate and wreathed in celestial lightning, they returned to the realms in a single apocalyptic storm that broke the long night and began the Age of Sigmar.
Each Stormcast is a paradox: an immortal soldier built from a mortal soul. When one falls in battle, their soul streaks back to Azyr as a bolt of lightning to be reforged and sent out again. But the Anvil takes as it gives. With every reforging something human is burned away — a memory of a childhood home, the sound of a spouse's laugh, the taste of bread — until some Stormcast wonder whether the person Sigmar chose still exists inside the war machine he made of them. This slow erosion, known and unspoken, is the great tragedy at the heart of the Stormhosts.
The Stormcast are organized into Stormhosts, vast brotherhoods with their own heraldries, temperaments, and scars. They fight wherever the God-King's storm is needed: seizing realmgates, raising Stormkeeps over reclaimed cities, and standing as the shining wall between civilization and the things that howl beyond it. To the free peoples they are living legends; to their enemies they are the lightning that answers every atrocity.
Yet for all their glory, the Stormcast Eternals remain Sigmar's great gamble — an army whose souls are spent like coin against eternity. Every victory is paid for in pieces of the people they used to be, and the question that shadows every Stormhost is whether there will be anything left of them when the war is finally won.

Subfactions
Anvils of the HeldenhammerGrim, black-armoured Stormcast drawn from souls of an older, darker age. The Anvils fight with funereal patience and a closeness to death that unsettles even their allies, for many of them were dead long before Sigmar's storm found them.
Celestial VindicatorsForged from souls who died with vengeance unfinished, the turquoise-clad Celestial Vindicators are the most ferocious of the Stormhosts. They fight with a fury barely contained by discipline, hunting the servants of Chaos with the hunger of those who lost everything to them.
Hallowed KnightsThe faithful given form — every Hallowed Knight was a mortal who called on Sigmar's name with their dying breath. Silver-armoured and serene, they are the Stormhost most beloved by the common folk, and the most determined to remember the humanity they were forged from.
Hammers of SigmarThe First Stormhost, golden exemplars of the God-King's will and the most celebrated of all Stormcast brotherhoods. Where the Hammers of Sigmar march, the free peoples see the storm itself given form — and the Hammers carry the weight of being legends who are never allowed to fail.
