The Stormcast Eternals are Sigmar's champions in Age of Sigmar. Their strength comes with a recurring cost: returning to war through Reforging can wear away the memories and humanity of the people they once were. A useful introduction to the faction therefore needs to explain both its military organization and the consequences of its apparent immortality.[1][2]
Reforging is not a consequence-free return[edit]
In the official Skaventide studio interview, the designers describe repeated death and Reforging as a progressive loss of self. Stormcast approaching that limit can enter the Ruination chambers. Some eventually face the prospect of becoming a lightning gheist; a Lord-Terminos can offer a final end instead of another return.[1]
That account gives the faction a different emphasis from a simple army of invulnerable heroes. The useful distinction is between surviving as a fighting force and preserving an individual identity. Reading a Stormcast story with that distinction in mind helps explain why another resurrection need not feel like an uncomplicated victory.
Stormhosts and chambers[edit]
A Stormhost identifies a broader body of Stormcast with its own identity; a chamber describes an organizational division within the force. These terms answer different questions and should not be used interchangeably. The 2024 faction introduction discusses the range of warriors and heroes alongside the Ruination chamber's place in the army.[2]
The Skaventide force provides a concrete example: the official reveal combines Warrior and Ruination chamber warriors under a Lord-Vigilant.[3] A miniature collection may therefore show several roles together without representing several unrelated factions.
The Ruination chambers and their companions[edit]
The 2024 reveal introduces the relationship between Ruination warriors and mortal Memorians, who help preserve connections to their former lives.[3] The studio interview also explains that much of the Sacrosanct Chamber returned to Azyr to work on the problem of Reforging, while some continued to campaign.[1] A changing model range and an in-setting explanation should be recorded with their publication context, not flattened into a timeless roster.
