Azyr is the Realm of Heavens, the plane of celestial magic and the seat of Sigmar, the God-King. Its skies churn with starlight and eternal storms, and beneath them stands Azyrheim, the Eternal City, the oldest and greatest bastion of civilisation in the Mortal Realms.
Azyr owes its unique status to a terrible decision. When the forces of Chaos overran the other realms during the Age of Chaos, Sigmar withdrew his armies and sealed the Gates of Azyr, locking out the enemy but also shutting out countless mortals beyond. As a result, Azyr is the only realm never to have suffered conquest by the Dark Gods, and it became a refuge whose peoples still remember the cost of that safety.
The realm also serves as the great arsenal of the God-King's counter-offensive. In the heavens above hangs Mallus, the metallic core of the world destroyed in the old age, from which the blessed metal sigmarite is forged. In the palace-city of Sigmaron, mortal heroes plucked away at the moment of death are remade into the Stormcast Eternals, the immortal warriors whose lightning-borne assaults ended Azyr's long isolation and began the wars to liberate the realms.
