Canoness

The martial and spiritual commander of the Orders Militant, a veteran of hundreds of battles who leads her Sisters from the very front, a hymn upon her lips.

A Canoness stands at the summit of a convent's fighting strength, at once its supreme battlefield commander and the keeper of its soul. She ranks above a Palatine and below a Prioress, and her authority may extend over anything from a lone strike force to an entire Order Militant, with a full commandery gathering several convents and detachments, as many as two hundred Battle Sisters, beneath her command. To rise to such a station demands a rare union of tactical brilliance, iron leadership, and faith so absolute that it borders upon the miraculous.

Every Canoness is a warrior tempered by hundreds of engagements, a slayer of heretics and xenos across countless war zones whose scars are worn as proudly as any relic. She is never found sheltering behind her Sisters; her place is at the fore, striding into the heart of the fighting while she leads the faithful in the great battle-hymns of the Adeptus Ministorum. The sound of her voice raised in worship amid the din of war can rouse an exhausted company to fresh zeal, for her Sisters see in her the living proof that devotion and command are one and the same.

Beyond the battlefield, a Canoness governs the daily life of those in her charge. She leads them in prayer, oversees their training and duties, and performs the sacred rites that welcome each new Sister into the Order. In her the spiritual and the martial are inseparable, and it is this fusion that makes her both a general and a shepherd of souls.
