Order of the Valorous Heart

The most penitent of the Orders Militant, bearing the ancient guilt of the Sisterhood's complicity in the Reign of Blood and atoning through grim wars of endurance and attrition.

Contents

Of all the Orders Militant, none carries its guilt so openly as the Valorous Heart, whose Sisters march to war beneath the weight of a sin committed before any of them drew breath. When the arch-heretic Goge Vandire seized the Ecclesiarchy during the Age of Apostasy and drowned the Imperium in the Reign of Blood, the militant Sisterhood of that age served as his unwitting sword, and though the deception was later undone, this Order refuses to let the shame be forgotten. Its every campaign is undertaken as an act of atonement, its every Sister driven to expunge the faintest stain of failure from her soul.

Founded in honour of Saint Lucia by the Ecclesiarch Alexis XXII in the thirty-sixth millennium, the Order takes its patron's endurance as its highest virtue. Lucia was taken by heretics and tortured across long months, her eyes torn from her, made to listen as a thousand innocents were murdered around her, and yet she never once recanted her love for the God-Emperor. Her Sisters aspire to that same unbreakable stoicism, meeting agony and loss with grim silence rather than fury.

On the battlefield the Valorous Heart wages a patient, merciless kind of war. Rather than charge headlong, its companies sever the enemy's supply lines and avenues of retreat, poison wells and fuel reserves, and grind the foe down until the battlefield itself becomes a barren desert of attrition. Where the incendiary Orders burn hot and fast, the Valorous Heart endures, certain that suffering borne in the Emperor's name is its own form of prayer.
