Cities of Sigmar · Formation

Hammerhal

The Twin-Tailed City, greatest of all the free cities, built across two realms at once: Hammerhal Aqsha amid the fires of Aqshy and Hammerhal Ghyra in the green abundance of Ghyran, joined through the Stormrift Realmgate. Its Freeguilds are the proudest and most numerous in the realms, and where Hammerhal plants its standard, civilization tends to stay planted.

Hammerhal is the greatest of all the free cities, and the only one that exists in two realms at once. Its Twin-Tailed halves — Hammerhal Aqsha amid the fires of Aqshy, and Hammerhal Ghyra in the teeming green of Ghyran — are bound together through the Stormrift Realmgate, so that a merchant may breakfast beside molten foundries and sup in a garden-realm the same evening. No single settlement better embodies the promise of the Age of Sigmar, that the sundered realms might be stitched back into one civilization.

Its strength is measured in banners. Hammerhal fields the proudest and most numerous Freeguilds in the realms, regiment upon regiment of pike and handgun raised from a population that dwarfs whole nations, stiffened by aelven cavalry and duardin ironbreakers. Where these armies march they do not merely win battles; they raise walls, break fields, and swear in magistrates, so that the ground they take tends to stay taken. Civilization follows the Twin-Tailed standard the way ivy follows a trellis.

That permanence makes Hammerhal the beating heart of the Cities of Sigmar — a capital in all but name, and the anvil upon which the slow, stubborn reconquest of the realms is hammered out.
