Greywater Fastness squats in the sucking marshes of Ghyran beneath a sky it made itself — a permanent ceiling of gunsmoke and forge-soot that has not lifted in living memory. It is less a city than an enormous engine for making war-engines, its Ironweld manufactories thundering day and night to arm half the free cities. Where other settlements ring with bells or prayer, Greywater rings with hammers, and its people take a grim civic pride in the din.
Its rulers answer every question of strategy with the same word: more. More cannon, more crews, more black powder stacked against the walls until the marsh itself trembles at their volleys. This creed has kept the Fastness unconquered through horrors that levelled prouder cities, but at a cost written in stumps. To feed the furnaces, Greywater has devoured whole forests of Ghyran, and the Sylvaneth of those murdered groves have neither forgotten nor forgiven.
So the Fastness endures as a fortress besieged from two directions — the daemons and greenskins that batter its outer walls, and the slow green wrath rising from the swamp beyond. Within the Cities of Sigmar it is the grim armoury, manning its ramparts against both foes with the same weary certainty that enough powder can answer anything.
Cities of Sigmar
Order of battle
The Greywater Fastness field the units of the Cities of Sigmar — a detachment from the roster:
Kindred formations
Other Cities of Sigmar formations
HallowheartA city of wizards in the Realm of Fire, raised above a chasm of raw magic whose glow gilds every tower. Sorcery runs so close to Hallowheart's surface that even its street-sweepers carry warding charms, and the battle-wizards of its Whitefire Court wield the arcane with an aggression that unsettles allies almost as much as enemies.
HammerhalThe Twin-Tailed City, greatest of all the free cities, built across two realms at once: Hammerhal Aqsha amid the fires of Aqshy and Hammerhal Ghyra in the green abundance of Ghyran, joined through the Stormrift Realmgate. Its Freeguilds are the proudest and most numerous in the realms, and where Hammerhal plants its standard, civilization tends to stay planted.
Tempest's EyePerched atop the Titanspear mountain in Aqshy, Tempest's Eye keeps eternal watch over the horizon and prides itself on never being surprised. It is a city of merchants, aelven outriders, and duardin gunners that musters faster than any other free city, with Kharadron trade fleets moored above its spires.
