A Battlemage is a graduate of the arcane colleges that flourish within the free cities, a scholar-sorcerer who has bound their life to a single lore of magic and marched it to the front. One may command roaring flame, another the bitter cold of the northern gales, another the beasts of the wild or the weight of the earth itself, each shaped by the realm and college that trained them.
Unlike the wild hedge-witches of the wastes, a Battlemage wields power with disciplined precision, folding spellcraft into the wider strategy of a city army. Among the Cities of Sigmar they are both weapon and safeguard, for magic loosed by Chaos or the dead must be answered in kind, and mortal soldiers cannot stand against sorcery alone. In battle a Battlemage becomes a living artillery piece, scouring a hillside with fire or freezing a charge mid-stride, and their colleges guard their knowledge jealously, for a single well-schooled mage can turn the fate of an entire campaign.
