The Knight Preceptor is a Questoris war-suit assigned the honoured duty of training a household's young scions, an experienced pilot whose role is as much teacher as warrior. Armed with a las-impulsor and a mentor's array of secondary weapons, the Preceptor leads groups of freshly-blooded Armiger pilots into battle, guiding them by word and by lethal example.
That a household entrusts its future to a single veteran engine speaks to the Preceptor's importance, for the scions who survive their tutelage become the Knights upon whom the house's honour will one day rest. On the battlefield the Preceptor fights with measured, instructive precision, demonstrating the arts of war even as it wages it, and woe betide the enemy who mistakes its teaching role for weakness. In the Heresy, when households were sundered by the choice between Terra and the Warmaster, it was often the Preceptors who shaped which way their young charges would turn.
