The Spectrus Kill-teams are the unseen edge of the Deathwatch, Primaris warriors who wage a war of stealth, sabotage and sudden death against the alien. Sheathed in the close-fitting Mark X Phobos plate favoured by the Vanguard, they forsake the heavy armour of their brothers for speed, silence and the freedom to strike where the enemy least expects.
Such teams are masters of both the killing blow at arm's length and the shot loosed from far beyond sight. At their core stand Infiltrators led by a Watch Sergeant, their number swelled as the mission demands by close-quarter Incursors, terror-sowing Reivers, or patient Eliminator marksmen who slay warlords and synapse-beasts with a single squeeze of the trigger. Together they specialise in unbalancing the foe, severing its lines of command and blinding its eyes before the wider kill-team even shows itself.
The Spectrus formation is a comparatively recent innovation, devised by Watch Master Mordelai at the fortress-world of Talasa Prime. Seeking to draw the fullest measure from the single-role squads of the Primaris Space Marines, he wove their specialist talents into the Deathwatch way of war, and in the Spectrus kill-teams found the perfect instrument for destabilisation and reconnaissance-in-force. Where they operate, xenos commanders die in the dark, sensor-nets fall silent, and the first sign of the Deathwatch's presence is very often the last thing their victims ever perceive.
