Talasa Prime stands as the headquarters and foremost proving-ground of the Deathwatch, a fortress-world sited within the Realm of Ultramar in the Ultima Segmentum. It is no mere void-station but an entire planet, crowned by an Aquila-pattern watch fortress and ringed by dozens of attendant watch stations, from which the black-clad hunters keep ceaseless vigil over the many alien breeds that press upon Ultramar's borders.
Overall command rests with Watch Master Mordelai, a grim and tirelessly efficient warrior seconded from the Imperial Fists. A devout adherent of the Malleus doctrine of overwhelming, pre-emptive violence, he holds the personal trust of Chapter Master Marneus Calgar himself, and his authority over the fortress and its garrison is absolute.
Above all, Talasa Prime is a place of instruction. Kill-teams are assembled and honed here, each blade tested against the specific xenos that would encroach upon the surrounding domains. It was within these halls that the Deathwatch first learned to weave the newly-created Primaris Space Marines into their ranks, birthing the earliest Fortis Kill-teams; Mordelai later refined the practice, devising the Indomitor and Spectrus formations to draw the fullest measure from the single-role squads of the Primaris. Like most such bastions, the fortress musters five Watch Companies, styled Primus through Quintus, each fielding four kill-teams of varied composition ready to answer any summons. It was to Talasa Prime that the celebrated Kill Team Cassius was seconded before its fateful hunt on Ghosar Quintus.

Order of battle
The Watch Fortress Talasa Prime field the units of the Deathwatch — a detachment from the roster:
Kindred formations
Other Deathwatch formations
Fort PykmanAn isolated Deathwatch watch fortress in the Ghoul Stars, holding the line against emergent Barghesi and waking Necron dynasties in the Imperium Nihilus.
Tyrannic War SpecialistsA doctrine as much as a formation, the Tyrannic War Specialists are Deathwatch warriors who have dedicated their Long Watch to the destruction of the tyranids. Steeped in the anatomy and instinct of the Great Devourer, they field munitions and tactics honed across countless battles against the endless swarm.
Watch Fortress EriochAnchored deep within the tyranid-haunted reaches of the eastern frontier, Watch Fortress Erioch is among the most storied of Deathwatch strongholds. Its garrison has spent generations charting the migrations of hive fleets and answering the alien incursions that plague the surrounding sectors, becoming masters of the surgical strike against overwhelming numbers.
Watch Fortress NostradaWatch Fortress Nostrada guards a haunted stretch of the galaxy where ancient tomb worlds lie buried and stirring. Its garrison specialises in the war against the necrons, maintaining eternal vigil over dynasties that could wake at any moment to reclaim a domain older than the Imperium itself.
Xenos Inquisitorial CadresThe most secretive arm of the Deathwatch, the Xenos Inquisitorial Cadres serve directly at the side of the Ordo Xenos. These hand-picked kill teams undertake the Inquisition's most sensitive alien-hunting missions, operating far beyond the sight of the wider Imperium and answering to inquisitorial masters alone.
