A Watch Captain stands among the most accomplished warriors of the Deathwatch, a veteran leader entrusted with command of its kill teams and the conduct of its most perilous xenos-hunts. Each has served long enough to have faced a hundred alien horrors and lived, and it is this hard-won mastery, as much as any badge of rank, that his warriors follow. Drawn like all his brethren from a parent Chapter, a Watch Captain often surrenders far more than a few decades to the black vigil, for many take up the Long Watch and never return to the Chapter of their birth, giving the whole of their remaining lives to the Ordo Xenos and its silent war. In battle he leads from the front, his tactical genius honed against foes of bewildering variety, from the ravening swarms of the Tyranids to the soulless legions of the necron. He knows how to fold a dozen disparate battle-brothers into a single lethal instrument, and how to unleash them at the precise moment and place where a xenos incursion may be severed cleanly at its head.
