The Death Korps of Krieg are the Imperium's masters of the siege and the trench, drawn from a radiation-scarred world that once turned against the Emperor and has spent the ages since drowning its shame in blood. When Krieg rose in rebellion, a loyalist faction unleashed atomics upon their own planet rather than suffer the heresy to stand, and the survivors crawled from the ruin sworn to a doctrine of endless, self-immolating service.
Encased in heavy greatcoats and rebreather masks against the poisoned air of home, Korpsmen fight with an eerie, wordless discipline, advancing across no-man's-land through shellfire and gas as though death held no terror for them, because to them it holds only absolution. They excel where a war has bogged down into mud, wire and attrition, digging siege lines, tunnelling beneath fortress walls and feeding themselves into grinding assaults that would shatter any ordinary regiment.
Their commanders spend lives with cold arithmetic, and the men offer those lives gladly. To die for the Emperor is not merely duty on Krieg; it is the only redemption its sons will ever be granted.
