The Wyvern is a specialist artillery vehicle built to butcher massed infantry, mounting a quad-barrelled mortar battery on the reliable hull of a Chimera chassis. Where a Basilisk hurls its shells at distant, unseen targets, the Wyvern works closer to the fighting, drenching enemy positions in a rapid storm of airburst munitions that detonate overhead and rain lethal shrapnel down into trenches, craters and ruins.
Cover that would shield troops from direct fire counts for little when death falls from above, and a battery of Wyverns can scour a defended line clean in moments, shredding a horde before it can close to grips with the Imperial infantry. The crews reload with practised speed, walking their bracketing fire across the field to keep the enemy pinned, choked with smoke and dust and too busy dying to advance.
Cheap to field and cruelly effective, the Wyvern is prized wherever the Astra Militarum must hold against sheer weight of numbers, be it greenskin mobs, cultist tides or the endless bio-forms of the great devourers. It offers no glory, only the grim mathematics of suppression, and it does that ugly work better than almost anything else in the arsenal.
