No vehicle is more common in the armies of the Astra Militarum than the Chimera, and most regiments keep more of them in their motor pools than any other machine. It is the tank that carries the infantry, the mobile bunker from which the Guard fights.
The standard Mars-pattern hull mounts a turret multi-laser and a hull-mounted heavy bolter, but its most distinctive feature is the array of lasguns set into its flanks. Firing ports run down each side of the troop compartment, allowing the embarked squad to pour fire out from behind the vehicle's armour without exposing themselves. Within, it carries a full squad of a dozen Guardsmen into the fight.
The Chimera is also amphibious, its tracks and sealed hull letting it ford rivers, wallow through swamps and cross marshland that would strand other vehicles. This versatility, combined with its rugged reliability, has made it the foundation of countless variants: flame tanks, anti-aircraft platforms and rocket artillery are all built upon its proven chassis. Whether delivering troops to a contested objective, lending its guns to the firing line or simply keeping a mechanised column moving, the Chimera is the indispensable servant of the Imperial war machine.
