Krieg is a blighted, irradiated world whose people are defined by an unshakable devotion to death in the Emperor's service. Long ago the planet was reduced to a poisoned wasteland by an atomic civil war, a rebellion against Imperial rule that ended only when the loyalist survivors turned nuclear fire upon their own world to purge the traitors. From that self-inflicted apocalypse rose a culture obsessed with atonement.
Today the surface of Krieg is a toxic ruin, its population housed in vast subterranean hive-bunkers and birthed in great cloning vats to feed an unending demand for soldiers. The regiments of the Death Korps of Krieg are the most famous product of this grim society, and they serve the Astra Militarum as masters of siege and attrition warfare, willing to spend their own lives without hesitation.
Clad in greatcoats and gas masks, the Korpsmen fight with a fatalistic zeal that unsettles even hardened allies, charging into no-man's-land and holding trench lines to the last man as though seeking their own deaths. They ask for no glory and expect no survival, only the chance to expunge their world's ancient sin through sacrifice.
