The Berzerker is the archetype of the fallen World Eater, a warrior in whom the Butcher's Nails have all but erased everything but the hunger for slaughter. In battle they abandon all caution, sprinting headlong into enemy fire so that they might reach the killing distance where chainaxe meets flesh. Once in the fray, they are a whirlwind of butchery, each blow driven by strength no unmodified human could match and by a compulsion that will not let them stop.
Every Berzerker fights to earn the favour of Khorne, offering the skulls of the slain as tribute in the hope of ascension. Those who kill enough may be gifted daemonic strength or drawn deeper into the Legion's darkest rites, while those who falter are consumed by the agony of the Nails. They know no fear and take no prisoners; retreat is a foreign concept, for to stop killing is to invite unbearable pain. On the battlefield they represent the Legion's essential nature distilled to its purest form, and to face a Berzerker charge is to confront a foe who will die gladly so long as he can take you with him.
