The Red Angel

Angron

Angron is the daemon primarch of the World Eaters, a being of pure rage forged first by cruel captors and later by the Blood God himself. Enslaved as a gladiator, mutilated by the Butcher's Nails, and betrayed by fate at every turn, he was ultimately elevated to daemonhood by Khorne. He is now an immortal engine of destruction, the living embodiment of wrath, whose reawakening spells doom for entire worlds.

The Gladiator King

Angron's story is among the most tragic in the annals of the primarchs. Cast by the powers of the Warp onto a harsh world ruled by a decadent aristocracy, he was enslaved and made a gladiator, forced to fight and kill for the amusement of his masters. It was they who first fitted him with the Butcher's Nails, the cortical implants that flooded his mind with rage and pain and left him unable to know peace. Yet even in bondage his spirit refused to break; he rose to lead a rebellion of fellow slaves, gladiators and downtrodden who came to love him as their liberator.

Betrayal on the Red Sands

Angron's rebellion was doomed. Cornered by overwhelming force on a mountainside, he prepared to die alongside the followers who had become his family, embracing a defiant end on the field they would call the Red Sands. He was denied even that. Snatched away at the last moment against his will, he was torn from his companions and delivered to a Legion of warriors bred from his own gene-stock, arriving in time to learn that every last one of his rebel army had been slaughtered without him. This betrayal, being saved while those he loved were butchered, became the wound at the heart of his rage, and he never forgave it.

Master of the World Eaters

Given command of the Legion that bore his gene-seed, Angron reshaped it in his own broken image. He demanded that his sons share his affliction, and the Butcher's Nails were installed across the Legion, transforming the disciplined War Hounds into the savage World Eaters. He was a primarch apart from his brothers, contemptuous of grand strategy and ceremony, caring only for the fight before him. When the Warmaster's rebellion came, Angron turned traitor readily, for the endless war on offer suited the rage that consumed him.

The Red Angel Ascendant

During the final days of the Heresy, as his mortal body began to fail under the strain of the Nails and the wounds of ten thousand battles, Angron was elevated by Khorne. His flesh was remade, his form swelling into that of a towering daemon primarch, wreathed in fire and fury, and he became the Red Angel, one of the mightiest servants the Blood God has ever claimed. For long ages he raged within the Warp, a storm of wrath bound to his master's will, appearing only when the killing on some doomed world grew great enough to draw him forth.

Doom of the 41st Millennium

In the dark days of the Era Indomitus, Angron has been drawn back into realspace in body as well as spirit, summoned through terrible sacrifice to lead his Legion once more. His return has united the scattered World Eaters as nothing else could, and where he walks, entire worlds are consumed in slaughter offered up to his god. He is no longer capable of anything resembling thought beyond the need to kill; he is rage incarnate, an immortal weapon aimed at the heart of the Imperium. To behold the Red Angel upon the field is to witness the wrath of the Blood God given form, and to know that nothing living in his path will be spared.
