The Devourers rose from the ruin of the Heresy as a rallying banner for killers who had lost their original warbands. They hold no fixed territory and answer to no fortress-world, existing instead as a migratory storm of violence that swells and contracts with the tides of the Warp. When a champion of sufficient renown raises the call, thousands of Berzerkers, Eightbound, and mortal cultists converge, and for a season the Devourers become one of the most dangerous forces in the galaxy.
Their campaigns follow no logic but hunger. They descend on a world, overwhelm its defenders in a matter of days, and glut themselves on slaughter until the killing runs dry, whereupon they melt back into the Warp to seek fresh prey. Imperial strategists have learned that the Devourers cannot be reasoned with, bought off, or contained; they can only be endured or destroyed. What sets them apart from lesser hordes is their sheer momentum, for once the tide begins to move it does not stop, and every kill only draws more of the scattered Legion toward the feast.
World Eaters
Order of battle
The The Devourers field the units of the World Eaters — a detachment from the roster:
Kindred formations
Other World Eaters formations
The Brazen BeastsThe Brazen Beasts are an infamous Khornate warband that wages war behind a wall of daemon engines, prizing the roar of corrupted machinery as highly as the screams of the dying. They fall upon the servants of the other Chaos Gods with particular relish, grinding fortress and follower alike beneath the tracks of their Defilers and Maulerfiends and the towering war-idol they revere as the Caged God.
The Red ButchersThe Red Butchers are a brotherhood of the most far-gone World Eaters, warriors whose Butcher's Nails have been driven so deep that they can no longer be trusted to stop killing even between battles. Encased in heavy war-plate and often bound in chains until unleashed, they are living weapons kept sealed away until the moment of maximum carnage, then loosed to break the enemy's strongest line.
The Skull ReapersThe Skull Reapers are a smaller, harder warband distinguished by their obsessive collection of skulls, which they regard as the purest possible tribute to Khorne. Fast, disciplined by World Eaters standards, and led by veteran headsmen, they specialise in decapitation strikes against enemy leaders, seeking the most worthy skulls the battlefield can offer.
The SkulltakersThe Skulltakers are among the most feared World Eaters warbands still at large, a host of Khornate killers forged into a single instrument by the towering Chaos Lord Zhufor. Where lesser warbands scatter once the slaughter is done, the Skulltakers seek to conquer, raising altars to the Blood God upon the ashes of the worlds they break.
