The Thallax Cohort was the fighting line of many a Mechanicum host, ranks of warriors so heavily rebuilt that little of the original flesh remained. A Thallax existed within a bulky life-sustainer harness that kept its ruined body functioning, freeing it to bear weapons and armour beyond any unaugmented soldier, and its mind had been pared down to the martial essentials the priesthood required. Borne on jump-thrusters and armed most often with the coruscating fury of the lightning-gun, thallax cohorts advanced with a tireless, mechanical purpose, laying down withering volleys as they closed. They felt no fear and knew no fatigue, holding positions that flesh-and-blood infantry would abandon and pressing attacks that ordinary troops would judge suicidal. Neither fully man nor fully machine, the Thallax embodied the Mechanicum's contempt for the weakness of the body, and in the Schism they were fielded in their thousands by loyalist and traitor forge-hosts alike.
