The Legion Land Raider Proteus was among the most treasured war-machines of the Tenth Legion, an ancient and heavily armoured transport that carried the clans' augmented killers through any storm of fire to the heart of the enemy. The Iron Hands loved it for its sheer refusal to fail, a hull that endured what would gut lesser tanks and delivered its passengers whole to the close and grinding war they favoured. Within rode Medusan Immortals and Gorgon veterans, warriors who had traded so much of their flesh for iron that the Proteus seemed less their transport than their kin. Its explorator array let it range ahead of a landing and choose its ground with cold deliberation.
