Set apart even from the Medusan Immortals whose name they share, the Immortals Cabal are an inner conclave of Iron Fathers and augmetic-priests, the most machine-transformed adepts in a Legion already devoted to the machine. They are the keepers of the Xth's darkest lore, the rites of interment, the binding of automata, the necromechanical secrets by which flesh is unmade and iron enthroned in its place. In battle the Cabal fights as a command cadre and a living reliquary at once, each member a repository of augmetic strength and colder knowledge, directing cybernetica cohorts and steadying the clans around them. Their counsel guides the Legion's forges as surely as their weapons guide its wars, and among a brotherhood that reveres the machine above all, it is the Cabal that stands closest to becoming machine entirely, venerated, feared, and no longer quite men.
